Details

This unique bridge was constructed under the Crowchild Trail / Bow River Bridge west of downtown Calgary. The bridge is supported by braces that are attached to the piers of the original overpass. It was then secured to neighbouring embankments to prevent movement.

CANA constructed the bridge using an innovative pulley and shackle system that was attached to the bridge sections. A wire guide system was installed under the base of the original overpass and one by one the sections were “slid” across the guide system to each set of pier supports. Once all of the sections were in place, they were securely fastened together. Finally, the guide system and pulleys were removed and the bridge was commissioned.
